Garry Nicholson
President and General Manager, Oncology Business Unit
Garry Nicholson is the President and General Manager of the Pfizer Oncology business unit (OBU). The unit is responsible for stages of clinical development, medical affairs, marketing planning and worldwide revenue and income related to oncology. The responsibility for licensing, acquisitions and collaborations is also part of the OBU.
Since joining Pfizer in May 2008, Garry has focused on building and leading teams with oncology expertise to improve the standard of care for cancer patients globally. With the full scale and scope of Pfizer support, the OBU has made rapid progress. There are more than twenty molecules in development for cancer patients across various tumors including lung, breast, prostate, liver, kidney, colon and gastric diseases.
The Pfizer OBU has achieved market share leadership globally with the use of Sutent for treatment naive kidney cancer patients.
Prior to joining Pfizer, Garry spent more than twenty years at Eli Lilly. He was the Executive Director of the U.S. Oncology Business Unit and subsequently in an expanded role as Global Oncology Platform Leader. Garry was responsible for the global Oncology franchise, including the Oncology therapeutic area strategy, portfolio management, Phase II/III development, global integration of Oncology medical and marketing strategies, regulatory submissions and approvals, and licensing and partnerships. In addition, he was directly accountable for the company's Oncology drug development budget and review of country and regional forecasts and income statements. Garry also played a key leadership role in business development and licensing initiatives in Oncology. Lilly's global Oncology sales exceeded $2.5 billion in 2007.
